It’s rare in any level of sports for one team to have a coach as long as Bob Ford has been with the University at Albany. The coach’s 43-year run as the team’s fearless leader will end after this season.

Ford is expected to officially announce his retirement at the team’s media day later this afternoon.

The Great Danes open their season on August 31st against Duqesne. The team will make their debut playing in the Colonial Athletic Association conference in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision this season.

Ford’s legacy will live on through the team’s new stadium, aptly titled “Bob Ford Field.” He was first appointed as head coach of the team in 1970. In total, Ford has racked up a record of 264 wins with 180 losses and 1 tie.
