Trey Songz Helps ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Win Weekend Box Office Race

Move over Denzel Washington, there’s a new matinee idol in town. The horror flick 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' was the No. 1 movie at the weekend box office thanks, in large part, to Trey Songz.

According to an exit poll (via E! Online), one in three female movie-goers mentioned the R&B hunk as the reason they wanted to go see the film. 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' earned an estimated $23 million during its Friday-to-Sunday release, making it the second-biggest opening in the ’Texas Chainsaw' franchise history.

The slasher flick beat out the competition including 'Django Unchained,' which grossed $20 million. Since opening on Christmas Day, the Jamie Foxx-featured film has passed the $100 million threshold.

Songz, who makes his acting debut in 'Texas Chainsaw 3D,' was grateful for the opportunity to star in a film with an ensemble cast. "It was definitely a memorable experience. It’s something I will never forget," he told Screen Crave. "It was a blessing to be part of such a huge franchise."

As for his future in Hollywood, the 'Heart Attack' crooner plans to take his time and develop his craft and not rush into acting so quickly. "It’s all about timing and where I’m at because I truly do love music," he says.
