Despite earlier reports, it looks like we’ll get a local showing of “The Place Beyond The Pines” before it’s commercial release date of April 12th. Many of the scenes were filmed right here in the Capital Region. The movie starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper will open in select cities on March 29th.

The flick is about a motorcycle stunt rider (Gosling) who turns to robbing banks as a way to provide for his lover and newborn child. The decision puts him on a collision course with an ambitious rookie cop navigating a department ruled by a corrupt detective (from IMDB).

The film was directed by Derek Cianfrance. The director has mostly handled documentaries before tackling “The Place Beyond the Pines.” He has done several hip hop related docs – “Black and White: A Portrait of Sean Combs” and “Run D.M.C. and Jam Master Jay: The Last Interview.”

Cianfrance’s wife and others involved with writing the movie have family roots in the Schenectady area. The GE Black Box Theatre, Proctors Theatre and Bow Tie Cinemas are all potential landing spots for the local premiere.

See if you recognize the landscape in the trailer!
