It’s safe to say the days of the Rick Ross-led Maybach Music Group dominance has ended. Recent singles like ‘No Games’ off Ross’ upcoming ‘Mastermind’ made very little splash and the ‘Self Made, Vol. 3’ album came and went. The end of MMG’s reign was essentially marked by Meek Mill’s presence last year, not that the label’s decline is necessarily his fault.
Two upstarts have found themselves in a beef – Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill. It all stems from Kendrick’s “Control” verse where he spit about Mill and a slew of other rappers and celebrities. The two are polar opposites, which makes this rivalry pretty entertaining to me. Kendrick is known as mainly a lyricist and “Backpack” rapper while Meek reps the streets. Kendrick went after Mill yet again at a performance in Brooklyn.
Meek Mill is preparing the follow-up to last year's 'Dreamchasers 2,' but this weekend he had to play pacifist between 50 Cent and a former member of his G-Unit camp at MixShow Live in Atlanta on Saturday night (Aug. 10).
Rick Ross’s endorsement deal was terminated by Reebok after protests about suggested rape lyrics by the Dade County rapper on a remix of Rocko’s U.O.E.N.O. The botched deal didn’t leave Rozay bitter, even though it cost him millions of dollars. He released a statement thanking Reebok for their hard work and dedication. A member of Ross’s MMG family, Meek Mill, wasn’t as civil with his words.
Philadelphia spitter Meek Mill is trotting the globe with his Dreams Come True Tour but found time to talk to a Washington DC radio station about his upcoming projects. In the interview, he spoke about the status and artist features on the third edition of his mixtape series, Dreamchasers.
It looks like Chris Brown and Meek Mill have all but forgotten about that pesky bottle-throwing incident at a New York City nightclub last year. The two looked like old friends partying it up in North Carolina over the weekend at Cameo nightclub.
Philly rapper Meek Mill has a thing about dreams, perhaps because his nightmares are never too far from memory. Nonetheless, the Maybach Music Group's resident dreamer has announced dates for his multi-city Dreams Come True tour yesterday.
For a guy who barely had a career, Shyne seems to be finding himself in a lot of beefs with dudes who are actually eating right now. A few months ago, he had trouble reaching for a kind word to say about Kendrick Lamar. Now he has another upstart in his crosshairs – Meek Mill. Shyne didn’t instigate this one, though.
Another day, another rap beef. Meek Mill's ongoing feud with fellow Philly native Cassidy gets interesting with the MMG rapper's diss song 'Repo.' The track is a humorous jab at Cass who, apparently, had his car repossessed a few months ago.
Meek Mill had a breakout year in 2012. He released his first solo project, “Dreams & Nightmares,” and has cemented himself as one of MMG’s headline artists. Did you know that Rick Ross wasn’t the first emcee to take a chance on Meek?
I’m always eager to press play when I get new music from my favorite emcees. I was like a kid on Christmas morning when someone sent me a new Cassidy track. I couldn’t wait to download it, plug in my headphones, and escape from reality for 4 minutes. Unfortunately, I’ll never get those 4 minutes back. The hustla’ tried to capitalize on the “Gangnam Style” fad with a remix called “Condom Style.” I really hope this is a joke…
It’s been a solid couple of weeks for album sales. Taylor Swift set the world on fire with the release of Red, which sold over 1 million copies in it’s first week. Kendrick Lamar proved hip hop fans still show support, selling over 200,000 copies of his debut project. Meek Mill is the most recent success story.
One of many backstage tussles at the BET Hip Hop Awards last month included a Rick Ross / Young Jeezy altercation. When it comes to his MMG label-mates, it seems Rozay is fighting this battle alone. That’s according to Meek Mill at least.
Meek Mill’s debut album, Dreams and Nightmares is scheduled to be released on October 30th. His follow-up single to Amen, “Young And Getting’ It” (featuring Kirko Bangz) is already catching some buzz and, of course, airplay on Hot 99.1.
Undoubtedly, the summer of 2012 belongs to the Bawse Rick Ross. The Maybach Music honcho and his elite duo of MCs Meek Mill and Wale cover VIBE’s annual ‘Juice’ issue (August/September 2012). While Rozay, Milly and Folarin hold down the front cover, other MMG members Stalley, Omarion and Gunplay are featured in the gate fold.
