A Schenectady woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer with his own weapon during a traffic stop. 19 year old, Denita Collier, fled from police officers after an early morning traffic stop on Wednesday. An altercation ensued when officers caught up with the woman.
Siena basketball fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. The team’s coach, Mitch Buonaguro, was released from his contract a year early. Remember when Siena was competing with the most elite teams in the NCAA Tournament? Yeah… We miss you, Fran McCaffery.
The manhunt continues for 18 year old, Eric L. Green. Police want to question the man about a stabbing incident on Sunday. State trooper Rodney Smith was stabbed in the neck on Sunday after speaking to a man inside the Empire State Plaza concourse. Troopers say Green is “known to police” but wouldn’t go in to further detail. State troopers are offering a $10,000 reward for info leading to the arre
Latham is about to be boomin’, literally and figuratively. The frequently forgotten shopping establishment, Latham Circle Mall, is about to be turned into a pile of rubble. According to a Times Union article, developers are preparing removal of the mall.
A Schoharie County woman was arrested after police found 99 caged cats in her home. They also found 67 dead cats bagged up in her freezer. The woman, Irene VanDyke, is facing multiple charges including cruelty to animals.
The movie, “Small Apartments,” based on a novel by Saratoga Native, Chris Millis, will receive a local premiere. The showing will happen at 6:30pm on Friday, March 1st, at the Saratoga Music Hall inside City Hall in downtown Toga.
Despite earlier reports, it looks like we’ll get a local showing of “The Place Beyond The Pines” before it’s commercial release date of April 12th. Many of the scenes were filmed right here in the Capital Region. The movie starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper will open in select cities on March 29th.

The Capital Region has lost an incredibly talented news anchor. Ann Hughes was the victim of downsizing as Fox 23 news is merging with WTEN. Ann first appeared on Capital Region television in 1998 and delivered her final newscast on Tuesday night.

A horrible tragedy happened in Troy on Monday where a 21 year old Albany man was stabbed to death. 21 year old Takim Smith was visiting a woman at the Corliss Park Apartment Building when two teens allegedly made their way into the apartment and stabbed him multiple times.
Vending machines are getting a makeover in schools. Say goodbye to the Doritos, Fritos and Honey Buns. New rules will mandate that machines in schools can only offer snacks with who grains, low fat dairy, fruits, vegetables and protein. All options available will also be limited to 200 calories per portion.

Historic Steinmetz Park in Schenectady has been around since the 1930’s. It was named after Charles Proteus Steinmetz, who was a co-founder of General Electric. The park was thriving until the early 80’s when there was a tragic accident. A boy drowned while swimming in the pond. Once the pond closed, activity dwindled.
An announcement made by Albany County has been made to set up a Schenectady County Community College satellite campus in downtown Albany. Satellite campuses are set up to serve students who can’t travel far from home to attend an institution. Long story short, you’ll be able to attend SCCC without leaving Albany.

A heartbreaking story broke yesterday involving a 26 year old Colonie native. Lauren Tanski, who moved to New Orleans, Louisiana a few months ago, was found dead in her apartment. Lauren was beaten and strangled to death.
A man riding his bike was hit by a van and dragged more than 130 feet earlier this morning on South Pearl Street. The man is currently recovering at Albany Medical Center.

This sounds more like a scene from a Will Farrell comedy than an actual news story. A 22 year old man from Schenectady, Tyler Bellick, was arrested for trying to drive away from Saratoga Casino and Raceway in a limo occupied by some feisty ladies celebrating a bachelorette party.
The absolutely devastating tragedy that took two young lives last weekend has been the talk of the Albany area. 17 year old Shen High students, Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers, were killed in a two-car crash caused by the second driver who had alcohol in his system when the accident occurred.
