T.I. Saved Scott Stapp’s Life After Botched Suicide Attempt
We all know that T.I. is a loving father, dedicated actor and a helluva rapper … but a guardian angel? That’s what Creed frontman Scott Stapp calls him after Tip saved his life following a botched suicide attempt.
The rocker appeared on VH1’s ‘Big Morning Buzz Live‘ on Thursday (Oct. 4) to promote his new book ‘Sinner’s Creed’ and told the incredible story to TV audiences. A little backstory here: Stapp is now a recovering addict, so this incident happened when he used to go on multi-day drug binges.
According to Stapp, after being awake from a drug stupor for three days straight, he decided that he wanted to end his life. “I thought I was in ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,’ in an asylum,” he recalls. “I started hearing things, like the cops were coming through the door and I started thinking, ‘I can’t embarrass my family.’ So I was trying to climb over the balcony and fell 40 feet.”
Stapp fractured his skull, broke his hip and nose in the fall and was bleeding profusely from his face. “I laid out there for two and a half hours and my guardian angel showed up — rapper T.I.,” he says. “He immediately took care of the situation and saved my life.”
Talk about divine intervention. It so happened that T.I. was staying at the same hotel and was standing on his balcony below when the incident happened.
“I had met T.I. back in 2004, we were both writing songs for ‘The Passion of the Christ’ soundtrack and we had briefly interacted there and knew what each other looked like,” explains Stapp. “We’d talked about being fans of Alabama … he came out, and as I’m laying on the ledge, blood fell to his feet and he looked up and he had an Alabama hat on. I said, ‘Roll tide,’ and then he looked at me and put two and two together and really saved my life.”
What an amazing story. We want to give props to T.I. for being such a hero and coming to Stapp’s aid when he really needed it the most.
T.I. has one more thing else in common with Stapp — he is an author as well. Tip just released his second book called ‘Trouble & Triumph,’ which is a follow-up to his first novel ‘Power and Beauty.’ If you want to cop Scott Stapp’s book, ‘Sinner’s Creed,’ click here.
