The MTV Video Music Awards are likely to get people talking and the 2016 ceremony held this past Sunday (Aug. 28) is no different. There was Kanye's "Fade" video, Beyonce's show-stopping performance and Chance The Rapper's many camera-worthy expressions, but there's also a discussion surrounding Alicia Keys' decision to go makeup free. While some are applauding the singer for her natural look, others are leveling criticisms, and for those Key's husband Swizz Beatz has the above message.

"This is deep," he said in an Instagram video posted Monday (Aug. 29). "Somebody sitting home mad because somebody didn’t wear makeup on their face. Not your face, but they didn’t put makeup on their face because they just didn’t feel like wearing makeup. But you mad because that person didn’t put on makeup to please you? Type of shit is this? Cause you can do whatever you wanna do. She didn’t tell y’all don’t wear no makeup. She just said that she’s not vibin’ with the makeup all the way 100 percent like that. That’s kinda her thing that she wanna do."

In May, Keys penned a piece for Lenny Letter explaining her decision, writing, "I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing." Swizz, however, turns the attention outward to those making disparaging comments, concluding with, "You must be mad at a lot of shit. You better look in that mirror and get that ass fixed cause if you mad at somebody else for not putting makeup on their face as their decision, you got a lot of work to do in life and we all do but you sure do."
