Democrats have a proposal in the Legislature to raise New York State minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $8.50 per hour. Cool, I might get a raise! A Siena college poll shows state voters support the proposal.

Siena conducted the poll from May 6th to May 10th and surveyed 766 registered voters by phone. The poll found 88 percent of Democrats, 58 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of independents are on board with the increase. Legislature could pass the increase before the end of next month.

The current wage of $7.25 an hour is less than 18 states.
