Legendary producer Rick Rubin is setting the record straight on his actual involvement with Jay- Z’s upcoming album, ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail,’ and even confirmed that the Brooklyn-bred rapper is working on a new documentary.

Jay-Z has been building excitement for the project through a series of commercials that featured producers Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Rubin.

Though the latter and a Young Hov worked together on the massive hit, ’99 Problems,’ it appears Rubin had little to no involvement with this new album, which he revealed in a recent interview with XXL.

"The point of me being in the commercials was that he’s filming a documentary and he asked me -- I imagine he’s just comfortable talking to me -- to come listen to the songs with him and talk about the songs,” he shares.

So Jay has a documentary up his sleeve? Interesting!

Rubin also admits that ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ is nothing like Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus' -- he serves as executive producer of the project. "It was a little different -- after coming from Kanye's sessions -- to listen to Jay’s album, because they’re so different,” Rubin states. “I was in a very alternative and progressive headspace, and Jay’s record is a more traditional hip-hop record.”

His 12th studio album debuts on July 4  via the Jay-Z Magna Carta app available on Samsung Galaxy phones. The LP is expected to have features from Beyonce, Rick Ross, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake, among others.
