County Waste has partnered with us to honor those in our communities who are truly making a difference.

All throughout 2015 and 2016, we will be recognizing one “hero” per month based on their inspirational feats, work helping their neighbors and everyday passion.

This month, we honored Robert Porter, a retired Marine from Albany who gave more than 20 years of service to his country.

According to his nominator, Tammy, Porter retired in 2007 and moved home to the Capital District. Since then, he has been dedicated to serving his community through several organizations, including the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Victory Christian Church and many others.

Learn more about Porter through an interview we did with Tammy in the video below, and click here to see how you can nominate a hero next month, when we’re honoring a local volunteer.
