Prodigy's new cookbook might not give most people any useful recipes, but it could improve their lives. The Mobb Deep member said his Commissary Kitchen: My Infamous Prison Cookbook, which he co-wrote with journalist Kathy Iandoli, could make you a better person.

"This book won't make you a better cook, but it might make you a better person," he writes.

Prodigy hopes the book will "give people more of an understanding of the kind of people that are locked up in jail," according to NPR. "You have people there from all walks of life: people who made mistakes and have to deal with the consequences, mothers and fathers. You wouldn't expect them to be behind bars."

Prodigy's cookbook was inspired by his need to eat healthy in prison due to his lifelong battle with sickle cell.

"I couldn't afford to get sick in prison," he writes. "My sickle cell is no joke, so I couldn't eat poorly or not exercise. And everything in jail is designed to do the exact opposite."

The book details how cooking in prison can be an escape. Prodigy said that making a meal was an enjoyable way to pass the time.

"It's just relaxing and you almost forget where you're at for an hour or two," Prodigy said. "It helps people get along, too. Sometimes if you've got a group of people in there that are cool with each other, we'd order a chicken together or make a dinner."

Prodigy's Commissary Kitchen is available now. You can purchase the paperback, Kindle or audio version of the book via Amazon.
