PnB Rock Credits Drake for Bringing Melody to Modern Hip-Hop

There's no question that Drake has seen monumental success in his lengthy decade-long career, but PnB Rock believes that he can be credited with bringing an entire style to modern hip-hop.

During an interview with Montreality, the Philadelphia crooner claims that Drizzy introduced melody to modern hip-hop, which has been a big part of his signature style over the years.

"I can't say he started it, but in my era in time, he started it...he made it to where you can rap and sing on some real shit at the same damn time type shit," Rock explains.

PNB also gives credit to Ja Rule and others for pioneering the style back in the day, but he emphasizes that Drake brought it to today's era. The "Selfish" singer also recalls being locked up at age 16 in 2009 when he heard "Best I Ever Had" by the More Life rapper and says that he "never been like that over nothing" in his entire life.

"I remember when I first heard it, it was like 2008," he continues. "I was locked up, too—I was in placement [at] Vision Quest. 'Best I Ever Had' came on the radio and I was like, 'Bruh, who the fuck is this nigga, bruh?' I'm like, this nigga is the most fire shit I ever heard. 'What the fuck is this?' I used to be really waitin' for the song to come back on the radio on some fiend shit. I ain't never been like that over nothing in my entire life."
