In terms of their respective crafts, Dr. Dre and Phil Jackson aren’t that different. Follow me on this one for a minute…

NBA legend, Phil Jackson, had a successful playing career with the Knicks, and an even MORE successful career as a head coach with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. He boosted multiple generations of league stars like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant to multiple championships.

On the other hand, you have Dre. Sure, the good doctor was a very successful spitter in his own right, but he’s had an even more successful career grooming multiple generations of rappers like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and his most recent protégé, Kendrick Lamar.

On the crazy buzz track, Control, Kendrick dropped the retired coach’s name saying, “If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin’ me. I’m uncoachable, I’m unsociable.”

Jackson heard the lyrics and responded on twitter:

“@kendricklamar it’s okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let’s just call it mentoring.”

Coming from a guy who has more rings than he does fingers, sounds like some sound advice!
