Olympian From Albany Area Competes In Judo

Congrats to the Capital Region’s Nick Delpopolo, who finished in seventh place in judo at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Nick is a 23 year old Burnt Hills grad who lives in Amsterdam.

Nick was a great representative of our area and the country throughout the competition. The United States have only won 10 total judo medals in the history of the games compared to Japan’s 65, and 37 for France and South Korea.

The London experience wasn’t all for nothing. Along with competing on the biggest stage in the world, it looks like Nick was mingling with some stars! You can see him below pictured with NBA star Kobe Bryant and pro tennis player Novak Djokovic (from Nick’s facebook page).

He may not have walked away with the hardware but his effort made us proud to be his neighbor. If you see Nick around the area, be sure to congratulate him!
