Nicki Minaj continues to double down on her support for 6ix9ine. During the latest episode of her Beats 1 radio show today (Aug. 21), the "Chun-Li" rapper said she "fought" to perform her song "Fefe" with Tekashi during her 2018 MTV Video Music Awards set, but MTV didn't approve.

"I wanted him to perform with me at the VMAs and somewhere along the line he didn't get approved to perform by the powers that be," Minaj said. "I don't want anyone to think for a second that I wouldn't invite him to perform his hit record. I want everyone to know my character. I really fought. It is what it is."

MTV has not yet responded to Nicki's comment, but if the network did prevent 6ix9ine from performing, the decision may have been in response to the fact that the "Gummo" rapper was convicted in 2015 of sexual misconduct with a 13-year-old girl. Tekashi's failure to fulfill the terms of his plea agreement for that case prompted the Manhattan District Attorney's Office to recommend earlier this month that he be forced to register as a sex offender and serve one to three years in prison.

Despite the controversy, Nicki has remained steadfast in her loyalty to 6ix9ine. In response to an editorial published last week criticizing the affiliation, the Queens MC posted a series of tweets accusing the publication of "bullying" and claiming that journalists were writing about her support for an abuser only because they have nothing to criticize about her new album Queen.

Minaj's defense of Tekashi wasn't her only controversial comment during Tuesday's episode of Queen Radio. She also expanded on her previous statements claiming Travis Scott unfairly juiced his streaming numbers in order for his new album Astroworld to retain its No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 over Queen, which landed at No. 2 in its opening week.

"Travis Scott wins Hoe Nigga of the Week, by a landslide. He out here selling fucking clothes got y'all thinking he selling fucking music," she said, among other disses.

Ultimately, Minaj still interpolated "Fefe" into her Queen medley for the VMAs, but without 6ix9ine's presence. She also rapped "Majesty" and "Barbie Dreams," among other songs from the album. You can listen to the latest episode of Queen Radio on Apple Music.
