We never really pegged Stephen Colbert as a hip hop fan, but none-the-less, it was nice to see the music genre represented with an appearance by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on his popular Comedy Central show, The Colbert Report.

Among the topics discussed were being an independent artist and homophobia in hip hop. Colbert totally owns the interview. At one point he singles out Macklemore’s sidekick, Ryan Lewis – asking if it pisses him off that Macklemore gets all the spotlight.

“It’s messed up,” Lewis jokingly responded while glancing over at Big Mac. “I think you go in and out of wanting to be the lead singer yourself. At this point now that I have a good scope to what being a celebrity is, I’m happy being in the background.”

The duo also performed their latest single “Same Love” as well as “Can’t Hold Us.”

Their debut album, The Heist, has sold over 600,000 copies.
