Rapper Kendrick Lamar has been named the Hottest MC of 2013 by MTV's hip-hop brain trust. Coming in at No. 2, predictably, was 2 Chainz. Reactions to the list have been mixed -- some disagreed, while others were humbled.

Arguably, K. Dot deserved the honor. Honestly, his second album, 'good kid, m.A.A.d city,' was the best rap album of 2012, period. But we digress. The brain trust praised Lamar for his great album, his slew of guest features and creating songs that both got play in the clubs and had mainstream appeal ('Swimming Pools' and 'Poetic Justice'). In the end, the Compton rapper was recognized for being an "important voice of his generation." We couldn't agree more.

Meanwhile, fellow rapper 2 Chainz finished at No. 2, much to the chagrin of his fans who felt he should have been in the top spot. And honestly, maybe he should have been. The Atlanta rapper made nearly 40 guest appearances on songs in 2012. Now that's putting in that work!

2 Chainz was saluted for his work ethic, including touring, awards show appearances and his ever-changing style (everybody is now wearing two gold chains). Not to mention, his debut album, 'Based on a T.R.U. Story,' boasts the infectious singles, 'Birthday Song,' 'I'm Different' and 'No Lie.'

Congrats to both Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz -- you guys are the hottest MCs!
