Kat Dahlia has been on critics and fans’ radar ever since she released the gritty banger ‘Gangsta’ last year. After a long wait, the Miami native will finally drop her debut opus, ‘My Garden,’ on Jan. 13. The album is currently available for streaming online.

The 11-song effort features the Cuban-American songstress delivering candid lyrics about the up and downs in relationships. Her fiery vocals, which are reminiscent of the late rock singer Janis Joplin, helps pull the listener in to her stories of love and heartbreak.

Songs like the aforementioned ‘Gangsta,’ as well as the uptempo track ‘Crazy,’ are on here but there are some gems as well.

The power ballad ‘I Think I’m in Love' features Dahlia being sexually frank about being in love with her boyfriend. On the bouncy ‘Tumbao,’ the 26-year-old singer celebrates her Cuban roots by effortlessly combining trap-inspired beats with salsa rhythms.

Another standout is ‘My Garden,’ which finds Dahlia seducing her lover with come-hither lyrics over a grinding hip-hop-tinged beat and melodic guitars.

“My garden is wild as daisies and it’s untouched of sin / My roots been craving lately to soak in your diamonds / Take it, you earn it / And I want you to lay on me / My flower bed is calling your name,” she yearns.

Dahlia ends the album with the acoustic guitar-driven song, ‘Just Another Dude.’ Similar to ‘Gangsta,’ the singer vividly details the pain of a broken heart after suffering a betrayal from her lover. The ballad showcases her powerful vocal range and the intensity in her songwriting.

Overall, Dahlia is a talented singer-songwriter and it shows on her first project for Epic Records.

You can pre-order Kat Dahlia’s ‘My Garden’ right now on iTunes.
