Karrueche Tran's pockets seem to be hurting since dating Chris Brown. The actress says she's having a hard time getting work and she thinks it's because of her ex-boyfriend.

In an interview with BBC, Tran, 27, believes when it comes to business, she's perceived as powerless since she dated the singer after he physically assaulted Rihanna. And although, she broke it off with Breezy after she discovered that he cheated on her and had a child with another woman, she's still seen as Brown's ex rather than a strong figure on her own. According to her, she's not booking gigs as a result.

"A lot of people think I am a weak individual because of past situations, and when it comes to business, sometimes people don't want to be involved with somebody like that. Which is understandable, but it sucks, because I'm not a weak person," Tran said.

But The Bay the Series actress isn't letting the "people who sit behind their phones and just say mean things" get to her as she moves on to better things. "I used to date him, and now as I am growing into myself and maturing and getting my career together, I am starting to have my own name without having to be associated," she stated.

The two will likely stay connected for quite some time -- at least in the media -- since the 26-year-old crooner released a new song, "Sorry," with Rick Ross. Fans speculate the track is an apology to Tran. "I've tried to change but they always around, pulling me down in bed / Gave you my word but they were just broken promises / Broken condoms, lipstick marks and unprotected sex / I feel like s---, you know I ain't s---," he sings.

The public perception of "weak women" staying with an abuser definitely has merit. Nicki Minaj recently spoke about the topic in an interview with The New York Times Magazine. "When I was younger, I thought that the only reason my mother didn’t leave my father was for financial reasons. From early on in my life, I looked at a woman not having her money as the biggest curse,’’ she shared. ‘‘Now that I’m an adult, I realize that women stay whether a man’s rich or poor. It’s just a weakness."

RiRi also explained why she went back to Brown after he beat her in 2009, in an interview with Vanity Fair. "Maybe I’m one of those people built to handle s--- like this. Maybe I’m the person who’s almost the guardian angel to this person, to be there when they’re not strong enough, when they’re not understanding the world, when they just need someone to encourage them in a positive way and say the right thing," she said.
