Albany’s fearless leader has decided it’s time to call it quits after 20 years in office. Mayor Jerry Jennings, the second longest serving mayor in the city’s history, announced on Tuesday that he will not seek re-election when his term ends in December.

If Jennings decides to leave office before December, Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin will take over.

The Mayor was first elected in 1993 and has served five straight terms as the big man on campus. Some people love him, some hate him, but overall Jer’ is a great guy and has done some amazing things for the city.

The news took social media by storm last night. Even some of the biggest celebrities in the world caught wind of the story. Several even went as far as to get a makeover so they could look like the Albany icon. #sarcasm
