Last week, Jay-Z and Beyoncé were getting some culture in when they visited a New York art gallery to check out an exhibition. According to Page Six, the couple was give a private tour of California artist Sadie Barnette’s new show is called “Compland”at New York’s hot art gallery Fort Gansevoort.

Barnette’s exhibit is described as a blend of two California cities Compton and Oakland. The artist was shared pieces of a 500-page FBI surveillance dossier on her father who founded the Compton, Calif. Chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1968.

Hov and Queen Bey also checked out Barnette’s purple tribute to Prince. As you may know, JAY and Beyoncé have interacted with the late musician during their careers. Beyoncé once performed with Prince at the 2004 Grammy Awards.

JAY-Z’s relationship with the late Purple One was more business related. The rap mogul spoke with Prince before his death about securing his music catalog with Tidal. Of course, Prince’s estate denied him that opportunity, much to Hov’s chagrin. He’s expressed his frustration with the estate’s executor Londell McMillan on the 4:44 track, “Caught in Their Eyes.”

Outside of that, JAY-Z is an avid art collector. The Roc Nation CEO reportedly has paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Richard Prince and others. On 4:44, JAY-Z urged the importance of generational wealth as he wishes to pass down his art collection to his daughter Blue Ivy and the twins, Sir and Rumi.
