Is Drake Dissing Meek Mill on ‘More Life’?
“All you did was write the book on garbage ass Rollies,” says Drake on the song’s second verse. “Ego strokin’, picture postin’, claiming that you’d do it for motivational purposes only but you just had to show me.”
Given Meek’s well-known propensity for rhyming about Rollies, people online are taking the line as a jab at the Philly MC.
Even on the intro “Free Smoke,” Drake addresses the ghostwriting rumors that Meek started, using them as an opportunity to speak on the eventual outcome of their beef: “How you let the kid fightin’ ghostwritin’ rumors turn you to a ghost? Oh, you niggas got jokes.” Some think that’s a shot at Kid Cudi, though, because the bar before goes, “Y’all keep playin’ with your nose, yeah / You get high and do the most, yeah.”
There may be more stray shoots too. On the outro “Do Not Disturb,” Drake spits, “If we do a song it’s like takin’ my kids to work with me / You overnight celebrity, you one day star, swear I told you that I’m in this bitch for eternity / I am a reflection of all of your insecurities, behind closed doors, a lot of 6 God worshipping / Done talk now, ’cause there’s other shit that’s concernin’ me.” Many online are taking the “one day star” line as a clever shot at Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson.
And Drake might even be taking a shot at Birdman when he raps, “I mean, I keep the fucking lights on in the building / Man, my record deal should be 500 million” on “Can’t Have Everything.”
