Iggy Azalea took some time off after a rocky 2016, or “shit show” (as she calls it). The Aussie sensation had a year of highlights, many of which were overshadowed by her constant Twitter beefs with everyone from fans to Azealia Banks and Snoop Dogg. She battled depression, contemplated suicide and even canceled her Great Escape Tour, but she’s finally in a good space.

Finding solace in her music, Iggy is back with her new single “Team” and is in full promo mode for her sophomore effort Digital Distortion. Fresh off the stage at The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Azalea stopped by  Big Boy’s radio show on L.A. 92.3 and talked candidly about everything from her approach on the new LP, her wedding guest list, her relationship with Kendrick Lamar and her first encounter with Nicki Minaj.

With this album Azalea is less focused on pleasing everyone with singles and is focused on just making music that feels good. “The New Classic was a dope album, but it was kind of full of singles and maybe not as good as a body of work,” Azalea said . “In terms of a storyline or concept, it was lacking that. I wanted to make sure to have that on my sophomore album and I feel like I achieved that.”

While she's preparing to drop the LP she is also preparing to marry the man of her dreams. She and Nick Young are currently working on the guest list and it may feature another famous rhymer. "I only have 22 people that I want to invite and Nick has like 120 people. His list is really long.” One of Young's guests could be his first cousin and the "Fancy" singer's good friend Kendrick Lamar. “I’m not sure if he’ll go [to the wedding] or not, but he’s definitely invited..." According to Iggy even before K. Dot became her future cousin-in-law, she was tight with him.

“Kendrick’s always been supportive. When I see him, he’s always like, ‘What’s up, cousin?’ I’m like, ‘We’re not cousins yet, but cool, I’ll take this.’ I haven’t asked him for any advice, but Kendrick and I have actually had a lot of conversations before I even was dating Nick because we used to do the festival circuits in Europe.”

Even with all of criticism Azalea says that there are some artists she truly can call friends. She made up with Snoop and despite rumors, she is actually still cool with her former mentor T.I.. “Me and T.I. are friends. He’s cool. People misconstrued that when he said he was taking a step back…It’s not that. We still do business together. I’m signed to his publishing company and that’s not gonna change. I love Tip. I know I can call Tip and he’ll get whatever it is I’m asking for.”

As far as her relationships with females in hip-hop, Iggy was at the top of her game in 2014 but has never properly met the reigning queen of rhymes, Nicki Minaj. “We don’t have a relationship. I don’t know her," Iggy told 92.3. "I walked past her one time and said, ‘Congratulations.’ She was like, ‘Thank you. I appreciate it.’ It’s on film. You could see it...I don’t know. I think she makes cool music. Good for her. That’s it, really.”

Iggy said Digital Distortion will drop in June. Peep the full interview above.
