Happy Birthday, Vic Mensa!
There is myriad of talent in the city of Chicago. One example is rapper Vic Mensa who turns 22 years old today (June 6).
It took Mensa a while to find his musical path. Innanetape, his second mixtape, and a guest appearance on fellow Chicagoan's Chance The Rapper's Acid Rap tape proved he was a solid rhymer. However, he really distanced himself from his peers when he decided to go house for the 2014 standout "Down On My Luck." The song, his first single from his upcoming debut album, became an international success.
Mensa, whose real name is Victor Kwesi Mensah, got a few good looks afterward including a huge co-sign from fellow Chi-City native Kanye West. The "Orange Soda" rapper was featured alongside Sia on "Wolves," which is supposed to be the opening track off Yeezy's upcoming album, Swish. Mensa then flipped from house to club anthems with "U Mad," which also features West.
Although there's official word on when Mensa will release his debut effort, Traffic, at least the young star is still working. He's set to embark on his Traffic tour, which kicks off June 19 in Dallas, TX, and wraps up July 4 in British Columbia, Canada.
