Female Officer Assaulted In Albany
The scene was like something you would see on TruTV’s “Most Shocking” in Downtown Albany on Saturday night/Sunday morning. A female officer, Sgt. Melissa Gipson, was attacked while trying to handcuff 21 year-old Katelyn Lyons (pictured above) outside Figure 10 on North Pearl St.
The officer is still in the hospital recovering from a concussion and infection in her mouth. Lyons slapped two women before Gipson attempted the arrest. She punched the officer in the face several times. Then, much like a WWE wrestler, she put her fingers in Gipson’s mouth, attempting to drag her to the ground.
Bar employees stepped in and prevented the attack from getting any worse. Lyons has been charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
