Unfortunately, this will most likely be the first of several disturbing animal cruelty cases we read about in 2013. Police officers were sent to a home on Park Avenue in Troy this morning to investigate claims of domestic disturbance. Officers were subjected to a horrifying scene as they entered the home – a badly hurt German Shepherd dog was laying on the living room floor with its hip bones protruding through its skin, unable to walk.  The dog eventually had to be put down.

A father and son, John Ferrara Sr. and Jr. (59 and 26), were intoxicated when officers arrived. The two disgraceful animal owners were uncooperative with police. They resisted arrest and wrestled with officers. John Jr. had to be hospitalized for injuries suffered during the scuffle.

They’re facing charges of resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, cruelty to animals and harassment.
