'The Equalizer,' a new action flick starring Denzel Washington, achieved additional notoriety for featuring a new song by Eminem. 'Guts Over Fear' finally dropped on Sunday (Aug. 24), but it turns out it's much more than a movie soundtrack cut.

The song is the first single off the just-announced 'Shady XV' album. The title of his ninth LP is a reference to the release of 'The Slim Shady LP,' which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. A trailer that aired during the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards confirmed the news.

This is the second year in a row that Eminem made an album announcement during the VMAs. Last year, 'Marshall Mathers LP 2' was announced in a Beats by Dre-sponsored ad during the ceremony.

teaser image that said the album was coming out on Black Friday was posted on his website but was removed.

'Guts Over Fear' also joins 'Not Afraid' as the only serious Eminem lead singles as opposed to the pop culture lampooning ones. The Sia-featured jam is a slow burner, and another one of the songs in which the rapper talks about overcoming "the struggle." This one doesn't quite have that light at the end of the tunnel; there's an anger birthed from years of  desperation, ambition and its cost. Sia's hook gives 'Guts Over Fear' extra weight.

With 'Shady XV,' which will debut Nov. 24, and new Nicki Minaj and Kanye West projects expected to drop this fall, there's suddenly more star power to look forward to in a rather lackluster year.
