Drake's latest album, Scorpion, has already earned the rapper a ton of money but according to a report from Billboard, the Toronto rapper may have lost out on $500,000 by not releasing physical copies of the project sooner.

While the platinum-selling Scorpion appeared on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music on June 29, physical copies of the album didn't hit stores until July 13. According to industry insiders, if Drizzy would have released Scorpion CDs alongside the streaming version of the album, it would have sold 250,000 to 300,000 copies in its first week.

Instead, insiders are now expecting 50,000 to 80,000 copies of the album to be moved it its first week. But label executives are defending the delay of CD releases, claiming it's a way to combat piracy and pre-release leaks.

But another head of a major record label claims Drake isn't worried about leaks or piracy, he's more interested in securing the top-streamed artist title. On the first day of the album's release, Scorpion broke Spotify's one-day global record for album streams with 132.45 million streams. The project also broke Apple Music's single-day record with 170 million streams.

“What Drake is doing is walking up to a table and seeing two bags of money, one with $100,000 on it and one with $500,000 on it and choosing to leave the larger bag of money on the table,” a music retailer told Billboard about streaming versus physical copies.

While the "In My Feelings" rapper may have lost out $500,000 from physical sales, he will surely make it up with the upcoming Aubrey and The Three Migos Tour. Kicking off on July 26 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Drake and Migos will make stops in Chicago, New York, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston and more.
