Rapper Lil Wayne has been incognito for the past couple of months -- and now we know why. It’s appears the Young Money leader was busy in the studio. On Friday (Feb. 14), during a Sprite NBA All-Star event in New Orleans, Drake revealed the release date for Weezy’s 'Tha Carter V' album.

According to Drizzy, Tunechi’s LP will arrive in May. "If you want to hear Lil Wayne at his best, if you wanna hear Young Money at they best...'Carter V,’ May 5," he told the crowd. “Just know we about this s--- for real."

It’s unclear if Drake accidentally spilled the beans or he was just hyping the audience up. Still, the announcement contradicts what a Cash Money executive told a college newspaper recently.

In an interview with the Griffin (spotted by MTV News), Cash Money Records Vice President of Promotion Mel Smith said that a release date has not been set for Weezy’s next project.

"It’s going to be a huge surprise to everyone; it's an incredible album," he told the newspaper. "I can't release the date because [Wayne] wants to surprise people; he wants his true fanbase to get excited but he's worked extremely hard on it and you won't be disappointed."

So is Lil Wayne planning to drop 'The Carter V' without any warning or fanfare -- ala Beyonce? Who knows?

In the meantime, the Young Money compilation album, 'Rise of an Empire,' is expected to be release on March 11. The collection will feature contributions from Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga and the rest of the gang.
