Donald Glover Wins Two Golden Globe Awards, Thanks Migos in Epic Speech

Donald Glover won big last night (Jan. 8) at the Golden Globe Awards, scooping up wins for Best Actor in a TV Comedy and Best TV Series for a comedy or musical for his breakout hit, Atlanta.

His accomplishment follows his win at the Critics Choice Awards for Best Comedy Actor in December. During the first Golden Globe speech for Best TV Series for a comedy/musical, Glover, who was rocking a fresh velvet suit, thanked the city of Atlanta and black people. He also gave an impromptu shout out to Migos. The Atlanta rap group made a memorable appearance on the hit show, but Glover said that wasn't why he was mentioning the group—he thanked them for making "Bad and Boujee" which he said is like, "the best song ever." It was a quirky, memorable moment that had fans of Atlanta, which was celebrated for its realistic, if not eccentric brand of humor and innovation, smiling.

When Glover, who just released one of the most celebrated album of the year with the funk drenched Awaken My Love!, won for Best Actor, he talked about how "magic" wasn't allowed at his house, which is significant considering that his brother, Stephen Glover, is a lead writer on Atlanta.

"I grew up in a house where magic wasn’t allowed, so everyone in here is magical to me. Every time I saw a movie or heard your voices or saw you, I was like, “Oh, magic is from people," he said in the speech. "We’re the ones who kind of, in a weird way, tell a story or lie to lie children so they do stuff we never thought was possible."

My dad used to tell me every day, “You can do anything you want.” And I remember thinking as a kid in 1st grade: “You’re lying to me.” But now I do stuff and he’s like, “I didn’t think that was possible.”
