When DJ Khaled last appeared on MTV and popped the question to his label-mate and frequent collaborator Nicki Minaj -- complete with a ring that could be seen from space -- he sure seemed serious, even if she wasn't there to immediately give him an answer.

In the days that followed, there were even rumors he was stalking her. Not so, she eventually said, explaining that the whole thing was just a prank. And now he's admitted the same.

"I was joking with it and having fun," he told radio host TT Torrez. "We be so busy making these big hits and I wanted to come with a dope plan to present the next smash single besides just giving it out."

In his faux proposal, as you'll recall, Khaled said he and Nicki are both “suffering from success” -- which just so happens to be the title of his next album. (Once skeptics picked up on that, the jig was pretty much up.)

And as for the half-mil rock in that engagement ring? It won't go to waste.

"What's the saying? 'Women's best friends is diamonds?'" he asked. "I'm just gonna add that diamond to one of my pinky rings or one of my necklaces, you know what I'm saying? You know, I love diamonds too."

Yeah, ladies do love diamonds. But a guy who wears one that big better be a drag queen.
