It looks like Childish Gambino's 2016 has been even more eventful than we all thought. According to an insider at US Weekly, the 33-year-old rapper/actor's girlfriend gave birth to their first child earlier this year. The gender of the newborn is still unknown.

Fans first began to speculate that Childish was expecting a child when his girlfriend appeared alongside him bearing a baby bump back in January. The speculation continued when the Atlanta creator's lady was seen pushing a baby stroller in May. Fans had every reason to believe Childish was a father, but the rapper has remained fiercely private with matters regarding his girlfriend, so they never had their confirmation. Now they do.

The revelation that Childish has become a dad marks another entry in what has been a banner year for the Because the Internet rapper. In September, Childish's TV series Atlanta  finally premiered on FX, and it's received nothing but rave reviews since. The show also managed to draw eager viewers, becoming the most watched cable comedy debut since Inside Amy Schumer. Atlanta follows the exploits of Earnest "Earn" Mark, a struggling Princeton dropout who aligns himself with his talented rapper cousin to make it in the music business. Childish, who stars in the lead role in the new TV series, explained why he chose Atlanta as the backdrop for his new series in a January interview with Deadline.

“I know it’s going to be very easy for people to say ‘It’s a black Mecca,’ and it is, but I just think that it’s the most American place," he said. "Everybody there is like ‘Yo, I got a verse.’ Everybody is trying to make something from nothing. I believe everybody has a situation, and I wanted to show real people in real situations… I wanted to make it a regional thing.”

Atlanta airs every Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST on FX. Keep it locked with XXL for more updates.
