Donald Glover’s musical future appeared to be hanging in the balance when he announced the impending retirement of his artistic alter ego, Childish Gambino, earlier this year. But recently, he pretty much shut that down, and during his backstage interview at the 2017 Emmy Awards, he confirmed the development of his eagerly awaited joint project with Chance The Rapper.

Speaking from the red carpet, Gambino spoke on how he feels about making music—particularly not wanting to feel pressured into it—when he gave an update on a potential joint project with Chance. It looks like it’s a go.

“You know music, I don’t ever wanna do anything because I’m forced to. I think once you do that, like, things start to get bad, you jump the shark,” says Gambino, who took home Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor and Directing in a Comedy series. “Also, I feel like if I don’t make a Chance The Rapper mixtape, like double mixtape, a bunch of 14-year-olds are gonna kick my ass. So—they stop me on the street and it’s kinda scary,” he continues. “So I feel like I gotta do something, and I probably will.”

Of course, if you’ve been following the saga of the long rumored project, you’re not at all surprised to hear Gambino talk about it. Back in June, Chano revealed that he and Gambino, who collabed on the Atlanta creator’s 2013 cut, “The Worst Guys,” were working on new music once again.
