Big Sean is reminding us 'Control' was actually his song before Kendrick Lamar stole it with his verse. Despite the hijack, the Detroit native says he's proud of the impact the song has on the hip-hop community.

'Control' couldn't be added on to Big Sean's upcoming 'Hall of Fame' because of sample clearance issues, but he decided to leak the song regardless -- he "knew what it was for hip-hop culture."

During an interview with Rap-Up TV, he also spoke on how he sent his verse to Jay Electronica and then Lamar to complete song. Sean implied he knew he got beat by Lamar saying, "I'm not a h-- ass n----, so I wasn't going to change my stuff for nothing. I didn't want to alter it."

"The name-dropping really took it over the top for sure," Big Sean said. "When three rappers hop on a song, whether it's 'Clique,' whether it's 'All Me,' whether it's 'Control,' somebody's always gonna shine. So it is what it is."

While general opinion toward Big Sean and Jay Electronica's verses have been generous, Lamar's performance has understandably been the focal point for listeners and critics. The verse has already prompted responses from rappers including Joell Ortiz, Lupe Fiasco and Mickey Factz. Lamar himself has yet to comment on the verse.

'Hall of Fame,' Sean's sophomore LP, is due Aug. 27.
