Kanye West's role as 21st century provocateur may have reached an all time high late last week (June 25), when the rapper released his video for "Famous" showing a collection of nude celebrity bodies in bed with him that included Taylor Swift, Bill Cosby, Donald Trump, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Ray J and more. Taylor Swift's outrage at the controversial imagery has already been expressed, and in a Facebook post published on Monday (June 27) Girls creator Lena Dunham voices her own troubles with it.

"The 'Famous' video is one of the more disturbing 'artistic' efforts in recent memory," she wrote, later going on to reference recent rape cases such those involving Brock Turner and Bill Cosby. "Now I have to see the prone, unconscious, waxy bodies of famous women, twisted like they've been drugged and chucked aside at a rager? It gives me such a sickening sense of dis-ease."

Dunham's largest issue with the visual is the way that it portrays women, and though she praises West's wife Kim Kardashian and her whole family for the way in which they empower women, she says that the "Famous" video leaves her concerned for young viewers. "Seeing a woman I love like Taylor Swift (fuck that one hurt to look at, I couldn't look), a woman I admire like Rihanna or Anna [Wintour], reduced to a pair of waxy breasts made by some special effects guy in the Valley, it makes me feel sad and unsafe and worried for the teenage girls who watch this."

She concludes writing, "Kanye: you're cool. Make a statement on fame and privacy and the Illuminati or whatever is on your mind! But I can't watch it, don't want to watch it, if it feels informed and inspired by the aspects of our culture that make women feel unsafe even in their own beds, in their own bodies."
