Following months of rumors and speculation, the coveted role of Aaliyah has finally been announced.

Actress Zendaya Coleman will play the late singer in an upcoming biopic for the Lifetime network, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Coleman, who bears a visual resemblance to Aaliyah, was previously featured on The Disney Channel show 'Shake It Up!' and 'Dancing With the Stars.' The 17-year-old beauty has had several modeling stints for the likes of Old Navy and Macy's and even released a self-titled album in 2013.

After the casting announcement was made, Coleman took to Twitter to share her sentiments about the role and the famed songstress.

The film is tentatively titled 'Aaliyah: Princess of R&B' and will be based off of Christopher Farley's biography 'Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.'
