5 Wines Made in the Capital Region
Sure, we have lawmakers, a very large Egg and a giant dog on top of a building, but did you know the Capital Region is also home to several wineries.
We're gearing up for our Taste of Upstate event on April 19, but before the event we thought it would be a good idea to give a rundown of 5 wines that are made right here in the area. The wines come from Adirondack Winery, Swedish Hill Winery, The Saratoga Winery, Thirsty Owl Saratoga, and Victory View Vineyard.
Adirondack Winery
Located in Lake George, Adirondack Winery, is family-owned and specializes in locally hand-crafted wines. In addition to wine tasting sessions they also offer gourmet cheese along with specialty chocolates and other foods.
Swedish Hill Winery
Swedish Hill Winery is located in Saratoga and are three-time winners of the Governor's cup. They have their own product lines that range from Chardonnay to fruity selections. They have a tasting room in Saratoga Springs that also allows people to try gourmet food and buy wine-related gifts.
The Saratoga Winery
The Saratoga Winery (located in Saratoga) is a great place to check out wine but also to hold events. They offer daily wine tastings and choclate pairings in addition to having live music on Friday nights. You can get wine by the glass or bottle including whites, reds, blends, and Melomel.
Thirsty Owl Saratoga
Located in downtown Saratoga, Thirsty Owl Saratoga gives those interested in wine the opportunity to sample over 20 different types. Those 20 different types are all produced at their family-owned winery that is located on Cayuga Lake earning them one Governor's Cup and John Rose Award. They offer wine tasting, an outside patio to relax on, and a bistro that cooks up meals with local ingredients.
Victory View Vineyard
Victory View Vineyard is a family-owned farm winery located in Schaghticoke. They make estate bottled wines produced through sustainable methods that result in hand-crafed red and white wines. They offer a tasting room, winery and vineyard tours, in addition to selling their wines.
