13K Applications and Counting So Far for Free State Tuition
Students are taking full advantage of the Excelsior Scholarship Program!
A week has passed since Governor Cuomo’s office released an estimate of how many students have signed up for the state’s new free college tuition plan so far. Applications, which the state started accepting last Wednesday (June 7), have been rolling in and Cuomo stated that within just one day the states had received and estimated 13,595 applications. We can only imagine how many applications they’ve received within the past week, and the applications will continue to increase as more and more prospective college students take advantage of this opportunity.
The Excelsior Program, which was just recently approved by lawmakers, allows in-state college students to go to college tuition free if their families are making and annual income of $100,000 or less. Once their application is approved and all other student aid has been applied, the state will cover the remaining tuition for full-time students in New York. I feel that this is a wonderful program that will help thousands of families who may not have the finances for college and will give these students a chance at furthering their education through this program.
